For most college towns it’s a place where people have hopes and aspirations, but for Muncie, Indiana it’s more populated with creative people due to the creative population at Ball State University.
Muncie is full of young people aspiring to be successful doing something they love. Some of these people dream of being a musician, and places like The Sauna allow aspiring musicians to have a place to play music and show the Muncie community what they can do.
The Sauna is a house show venue close to the University’s campus ran by the 5 roommates occupying the house, Maxwell Denari, Clay Easton, Michael Cottone, Cole Callahan, and John Fugate.
Every two-to-three weeks the house brings in a band to perform in the garage attached to their rented house. The bands range from what the roommates describe as “washed out indie rock” to “psychedelic music” to “jam bands” to hardcore and heavy metal bands.
They recruit each band to perform through the connections the five men have to musically talented people in the Muncie area.
“We wanted to start up the Sauna to give our friends a place to perform and show off their talent," Denari said.
The house announces every show through Facebook events and other social media with no set cover price the house typically asks that show attendees donate $2 to $3 for admission.
You can find out when the next show or band is going to be at The Sauna on their Facebook or Twitter accounts.
