On December 6th, 2018 Muncie, Indiana hosted its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony called “Light up Downtown”.
Cheryl Crowder event director for Muncie downtown development partnership and the woman in charge of this event, was very excited to see all of the community members come out and enjoy everything the event had to offer.
Families and college students from the city came to enjoy the event and all the activities it had to offer. From Santa Clause, the tree lighting ceremony, fire pits to the Muncie Makers Market people came to enjoy everything the Muncie vendors had to offer.
Visitors even had the option to enjoy free vegan hot chocolate from the Muncie branch of “Food not Bombs”.
Drew Urquhart, a member of Food Not Bombs, was excited for the opportunity to serve hot chocolate for the second year in a row, but this year they were accepting donations
These monetary donations to “Food Not Bombs” go towards their weekly meal that they serve, typically at the Young Women’s Christian Association or YWCA in Muncie.
Although the group is small they are a part of a much larger national group working to fight the waste of food.
