The Muncie Symphony Orchestra was started by Dr. Robert Hargreaves in 1948. They’re first debut was in the spring of 1948 with two concerts. Since then, many conductors have led the group. The Ball State University Teacher’s College music program is the home of the orchestra.
The current conductor is Douglas Droste. He has been the conductor since 2013. This Christmas season he will be leading the Muncie Symphony Orchestra in the annual Fisher Shafer Holiday Pops Concert.
This year’s show will include songs from the holiday films Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life. Two classic films to bring the Christmas joy to start off the season.
Guests include West View Ensemble led by Michelle Blade, music director, and Ball State University Singers led by Alan Alder, music director.
The West View Ensemble includes students from West View Elementary School located in Muncie. The Ball State University Singers includes students from the university. The Ball State University Singers began in the 1960s as a popular vocal ensemble and is still proudly singing loud for all to hear during this Christmas event.
Before the show will be the Instrument Petting Zoo and family photos with Santa Clause. During intermission there will be servings of hot cider and roasted chestnuts available.
The event will take place at Emens Auditorium at Ball State University.
Single tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Emens Auditorium Box Office at 765-285-1539. Adult tickets start at $25. Youth tickets start at $5 for grades Kindergarten through 12. Ball State students tickets are free in advance with a Ball State University ID and other college student tickets are $10 with their college ID.
