A new restaurant opened in Muncie last week. The Neely House is located at 617 E. Adams St. opened on Oct. 4.

The restaurant is housed inside the home that Thomas Neely built and maintained himself into his final days. The new owners of the restaurant removed any parts of the home that were added on after Neely’s death in 1901. This was done to make the restaurant’s aesthetic to appear as it would have at the time that Neely was living there.

In fact, one of the restaurant owners, Russell Irving, says that many aspects of the restaurant are based on details Thomas Neely described in journals.

“Thomas Neely [kept diaries] from 1860 to 1901 about the food he was growing here,” Irving said.

The owners paid attention to exactly what Neely grew in his gardens and have re-planted those foods.

The entirety of the property has been designed to make customers feel like they have gone back in time.

Irving says that they strive to be a farm-to-table restaurant and stand out as the finest dining in Muncie.
