On Thursday, Sept. 27, Muncie’s Washington Street Bridge will be closed to traffic and open to the public for a unique dining experience. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the bridge will be converted into a gathering place for the Muncie community to come together and share a meal. Tables and chairs will be provided, and visitors are welcome to bring their own meal or purchase one while they meet community members and enjoy live entertainment.

Performances by Muncie Central Jazz Band and the School of Music’s Beneficence Brass will accompany this event, as well as a view of Meridian’s Duck Derby along the river.

Experience some local Muncie food with vendors like Maadi Grill, Sea Salt and Cinnamon, Speedy Dogs, Hook ‘N’ Ladder Pizza, the Barking Cow, Guardian Brewing Company, and New Corner Brewing Company all in attendance.

Brittany Mika, a community member who attended the dinner last year, said that the variety of food trucks was part of why she attended.

“They have food trucks, and I like food trucks,” she said.

This event is an effort to bridge the gap between Ball State and downtown Muncie, and is truly a collaborative effort hosted by Muncie Action Plan, City of Muncie, Shafer Leadership Academy, Cornerstone Center for the Arts, Muncie Downtown Development, Muncie Community Schools, Ball State Office of Community Engagement, Polcz Family Team at Coldwell Banker Lunsford, Community Foundation, Muncie Civic Theatre, Muncie Arts and Culture Council, Muncie Chamber of Commerce, and Muncie/Delaware County Economic Development Alliance.

Free transportation from campus to this event is available for students, leaving from Sursa Performance Hall at 5:15p.m. and 5:30 p.m., returning from the bridge at 7:30p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

Admission to the event is free, however registration on Eventbrite is encouraged. This event is weather permitting, updates can be found on the event’s Facebook page. More information can be found on muncieneighborhoods.org/bridgedinner.
