Brian Stelter, hose of CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” visited Ball State University on November 27th to speak to students in a presentation titled “Reporting Truthfully in the Fake News Era.”

Stelter joins a long line of recent titans of the entertainment industry to visit Ball State’s campus, including David Letterman, Oprah Winfrey, Spike Jonze, David Bennett, and RJ Mitte.

“I know that when word gets out it gets our campus on the grid," senior Hiedi Nguyen said. “It’s also just a really cool opportunity and it brings students together to see something so interesting and to listen to whoever comes.”

Stelter’s lecture, which was presented at Pruis Hall, detailed the significance in utilizing reliable news sources, particularly in today’s day and age when social media gives everyone a voice.

“In this age where everybody and everything is a source, there is so much information out there, but not enough truth. Not enough insight,” Stelter said.

Although the lecture was available to any student or faculty member, his key points served as especially significant advice to those striving for a career in journalism.

“I think anyone who took the opportunity to see him benefitted greatly from it,” junior Logan Lewis said.

Stelter can be seen every Sunday morning from 11 a.m. to noon ET on CNN.
