Two Teens to be Featured in Muncie’s Symphonic Halloween

Muncie Symphony Orchestra’s Symphonic Halloween will be live in Emens Auditorium Saturday, Oct. 27.

The 2018 Muncie Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition winners will have solo performances during Symphonic Halloween on Oct. 27.

Sage Hamm, an 18-year-old pianist, will perform Andante Sostenuto of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2.

One of the best young musicians in the state, Hamm has won first place at the 2014 and 2016 Indiana Music Teachers Association Competition and the 2016 and 2017 Indiana State Fair Piano Competition.

“Sage is such a unique talent,” said Muncie Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Jennifer Johnson. “He’s been competing in, and winning, competitions and recitals ever since he was about six years old.”

Abigail Ko, a 14-year-old violinist, will perform Vorspiel: Allegro Moderato of Max Bruch’s Concerto No. 1.

Ko, a freshman at Carmel High School, will be going on tour throughout Argentina and Chile this summer as a member of the Violin Virtuosi.

“Our junior division winner, Abby Ko, has attended IU Summer String Academy ever since she was 10,” said Johnson. “She’s already performed in masterclasses for many renowned artists like Elizabeth Wallfisch, Peter Stumpf, William Harvey and many more.”

Symphonic Halloween will also feature “Night on Bald Mountain” and “Symphonie Fantastique,” as the Muncie Symphony Orchestra celebrates 70 years.

“The Muncie community has been so supportive throughout the years, and that’s really the reason the orchestra has been around all these years,” said Johnson.

Tickets are on sale for $25 for adults, $5 for children and, as always, free for Ball State students.
